Memories Awoken was a virtual representation of one of Kassandra'southward genetic memories, relived by Layla Hassan in 2022 through the Portable Animus HR-eight.5.
Description
Kassandra met with Herodotus at the King of beasts of Leonidas in Malis on his request.
Dialogue
Kassandra departed the lair of the Cult of Kosmos and made her style to the Cave of Kratos.
Kassandra:The path of betrayal. This is where that traitor snuck the Persian army past Sparta'southward defenses.
Kassandra entered the cave and began to make her way through it.
Kassandra:Taking this path feels as if I'm betraying Sparta, too.
Somewhen, Kassandra emerged on the other side high atop a ledge overlooking Thermopylai and was nonplussed by the view in forepart of her.
Kassandra:All my life I've heard stories of Leonidas. I can't believe I'm finally seeing where history was made.
Kassandra descended down the cliffside and met with Herodotos on the basis below at the Panthera leo of Leonidas.
Kassandra:This is where Leonidas was laid to residual. I wish I had known him.
Herodotos:If you close your eyes, y'all can hear them. Their concluding war cries, before every last one of those dauntless Spartans perished. Their voices were silenced that solar day, but their story will be sung for an eternity.
Kassandra:You didn't bring me here to talk about expressionless Spartans. What's on your listen, Herodotos?
Herodotos:The boxing of Thermopylai even so echoes in our hearts, but to stand up here is to feel information technology in your bones.
Kassandra:There's nothing here but ghosts. My concerns are with the living.
Kassandra:Very poetic. Can we please go to Athens? Nosotros can talk about the dead on the way
Herodotos:Patience. I didn't bring you hither to talk nigh the expressionless, I brought you here so you can learn to protect the living.
Kassandra:How can I protect the living if I'thou hanging around statues of lions?
Herodotos:Hold out your spear.
Kassandra:My spear? What for?
Herodotos:I need to know something.
Kassandra did as she was told, and at Herodotos'due south affect, memories flooded them both of the battle. In information technology, Leonidas was on the field of battle, watching his soldiers get cut downward around him including Dienekes, who was stabbed from behind.
Leonidas:Dienekes!
Leonidas ran to him, speedily avenging his death. Leonidas took several arrows to his body, just refused to dice, even after having to break off the tip of his spear. Falling to his knees, he looked to the ascension sun, only for it to be blocked by a Persian soldier. Taking off his captain, the soldier revealed himself to be the traitor Spartan that had enabled Xerxes to merits victory. The soldier ran Leonidas through with his sword, but Leonidas stabbed him with the tip of the spear. Herodotos and Kassandra were so thrust back into the nowadays, where Herodotos collapsed into her arms.
Herodotos:Uh...
Kassandra:Herodotos!
Herodotos:I'm fine. I'm fine. The stories are true. This is the spear of Leonidas. The hero's blade.
(If "Why was Sparta solitary that solar day?" is called.)
Kassandra:Where were Sparta's allies?
Herodotos:The Spartans weren't lone in facing Xerxes and his hoards. Many from across the Greek world were armed and ready to fight alongside Leonidas and his three hundred. But when the mighty king looked into their eyes and saw fear, he sent them home.
Kassandra:That sounds like madness, not bravery.
Herodotos:It was foretold past the Pythia that Sparta would lose either its freedom or its king to the Persians. Leonidas made his pick.
(If "What happened to Leonidas?" is chosen.)
Kassandra:What happened to Leonidas after the boxing?
Herodotos:Xerxes was famous for honoring warriors who fought valiantly against the Persians. But Leonidas infuriated him so much, he cut off his head and impaled it on a pike. A bloody battle ensued, and his remains were reclaimed by the Spartans and buried here. At present, yet, he rests where he belongs.
Kassandra:In Sparta.
(If "What happened to the traitor?" is chosen.)
Kassandra:What happened to the traitor, Ephialtes?
Herodotos:King Xerxes paid him well, but treachery breeds treachery. A contract was put on his caput, and he died every bit he lived—a coward.
(If "You knew the spear would do that." is chosen.)
Kassandra:You knew this would happen.
Herodotos:I didn't know—but I did suspect. There is a place I'd convinced myself was a dream... until now. A peculiar construction on the island of Andros—mysterious shapes carved in stone. Similar nil I've ever seen.
Kassandra:You want to sail to Andros so you can evidence me shapes?
Herodotos:In my travels I heard whispers of an ancient civilization, a people who came... before. Your spear and that place are connected.
(If "Who are the people who came earlier?" is called.)
Kassandra:You mentioned a people that came before. Who were they?
Herodotos:They were not gods, but they lived longer than any mortal and were far more intelligent. I've seen carvings, strange symbols that suggest it was this aboriginal civilization that created humankind... and provided them with burn down.
Kassandra:But Zeus blamed Prometheus.
Herodotos:Yes. Well perhaps his eagle has been feasting on the wrong liver.
(If "We sheet to Andros." is chosen.)
Kassandra:The spear awakened to you, Herodotos. I trust you.
Herodotos:You understand... I will exercise everything in my power to assistance you find your mother, I promise. But first we must sail to the island of Andros.
Kassandra:I'll meet you at my ship.
Once aboard the Adrestia, Kassandra, Herodotos, and Barnabas got underway.
Barnabas:Welcome aboard the Adrestia, Herodotos! Will you exist traveling with the states?
Herodotos:Only for a curt trip. I have business concern to attend to in Athens.
Kassandra:Herodotos is helping me find my mother.
Barnabas:Seeking help from the gods has put Herodotos on your path, just as they put yous on mine. They work in ways beyond our comprehension, and all nosotros tin can do is follow their lead.
Kassandra:You could exist right. Herodotos and I share enemies, too.
Barnabas:Similar Elpenor?
Kassandra:He is—was—part of a very powerful group called the Cult of Kosmos that controls the Greek world through the Oracle.
Barnabas:Control the Oracle! Apollo would not allow that.
Kassandra:At present they are looking for my mother. I demand to notice her before they practise.
Herodotos:And I believe they volition hurt others who oppose their views forth the way.
Barnabas:By Hermes... The Oracle lost to corruption, and now this Cult? Do we know who leads them?
Kassandra:I don't know for sure but... I think it might be my brother.
Barnabas:Your brother?! Past Zeus, your life is complicated.
Kassandra:Tell me about information technology.
Barnabas:Merely don't you worry! This Cult of Kosmos now has three new enemies. And ane of them fights like Athena and shits thunder like Zeus! We'll bring the wrath of the gods down upon them.
Herodotos:Is he always this positive?
Kassandra:Always. That's why I similar him.
Barnabas:Poseidon carry us to Athens!
Kassandra:First we need to go to Andros.
Barnabas:To Andros, then!
Every bit they approached the isle, Kassandra and Herodotos entered into deep discussion about the spear.
Herodotos:Kassandra, there's a question I've been significant to ask you.
Kassandra:Go on.
Herodotos:Your spear. How did you detect it?
Kassandra:My mother told me that the Spartan army brought it back from the Battle of Thermopylai.
Herodotos:Why bring it back to her?
Kassandra:Leonidas was her father.
Herodotos:Incredible... And it gives you visions. Perhaps it'south trying to guide you? Bear witness you a path?
Kassandra:There's more. It helps me in battle.
Herodotos:What practise you mean?
Kassandra:I can't really describe it... It'due south like I know what my opponent'southward next move will be, just before it happens.
Herodotos:Fascinating... This is just extraordinary... Nosotros are approaching the island of Andros, Kassandra.
Barnabas:Yes! Here nosotros tin encounter the tomb of the greatest Myrmidon, Achilles!
Herodotos:I was more than excited by the fact that Andros exports some of the well-nigh expensive marble in the earth.
Kassandra:Is this the place with the rumored aboriginal civilization ruins you were talking about?
Herodotos:Indeed it is. Look for a large gate.
Kassandra departed the ship, making her way to the shore to go along to a seemingly impassable crevice in the rocks.
Kassandra:How do I get within? I wonder if...
She drew her spear, simply to be taken dorsum into memory of when she was young, hunting down a boar. The hunt was interrupted past her female parent, who threw the spear tip at the fauna.
Young Kassandra:Who's in that location? Come out!
Myrrine:Hesitation only hastens—
Young Kassandra:—the grave. I know, mater.
Myrrine:Your class is improving, your resolve is potent. But you're not taking activity.
Immature Kassandra:I was going to!
Myrrine:I know. Merely information technology's the moments in betwixt that decide everything. Your plow.
Myrrine took out a spear tip and gave information technology to Kassandra.
Immature Kassandra:Leonidas's spear!
Myrrine:You lot're quondam plenty now. My father's spear holds a certain burden, merely... you're set.
Young Kassandra took a few practice swings.
Young Kassandra:I felt something.
Myrrine:Oh?
Young Kassandra:The spear... it has magic.
Myrrine:It carries with it a long line of ability. A bloodline of incredible heroes—the same blood inside you and me. And our family.
Young Kassandra:All of u.s.?
Myrrine:Think of Leonidas. He had great courage. And he made a swell sacrifice. You share in his blood and the strength he possessed. Nosotros are able to experience certain things happening effectually us. That is our family'southward gift. But not everyone understands that. Some recognize the power we conduct, and want it only for themselves. They volition try to take it from us.
Young Kassandra:I won't let them.
Myrrine:I know. You're a warrior. If nosotros go along moving forward—ever moving forrad—nosotros're untouchable. Storm'due south coming in.
Young Kassandra:And then maybe we should move forward now.
The memories faded.
Kassandra: Mater... I haven't forgotten you.
Kassandra held the spear out to the crevice, and the magic within forced open a set of concealed doors. She stepped inside, and the entry sealed shut behind her.
Kassandra:By the gods... Who built all this? How does a place similar this be? How could I fifty-fifty explain this to someone like Markos? Something's glowing over in that location.
She entered into a lit bedchamber where a rock construct sat. A low in its surface matched the spear, so she placed it inside. Unlocked, the stone revealed a series of symbols. Another slot seemed to fit the piece of the pyramid she took from Elpenor, then she placed that into it.
Kassandra retrieved her spear from the stone slot.
Kassandra:My spear's stronger at present. The Cult won't stand a chance. Well, Herodotos will be happy. Information technology's clear someone was hither far before we were. Did Leonidas know this identify existed?
Once outside, an arrow narrowly missed Kassandra. On the hill above stood Deimos.
Deimos:Time to talk.
She followed him upward the cliff confront to the ruins above.
Deimos:You lot're not difficult to runway.
Kassandra:Did you come up alone? Are you all correct? Alexios, you lot're alive.
Deimos:Don't bear upon me.
Kassandra:Come on, little brother. You have to tell me everything. What'southward happened to you?
Deimos:I don't have to tell you lot anything. I don't know you.
Kassandra:Well, I know you. Information technology doesn't matter. There's more important things to argue about.
Deimos:Y'all're correct. Like that stunt you pulled with the artifact. It got my attention, if that's what you wanted.
Kassandra:What? The artifact showed the truth. We're family, and we made it out of Sparta alive.
Deimos:Yes, it did show the truth. Information technology confirmed what I always knew. Y'all threw me off a fucking mount.
Kassandra:If that's what you call up, Alexios, you must've hit your caput on the fashion down.
Deimos:I've heard the story, and not from a liar like y'all. And never phone call me Alexios.
Kassandra:You think it's that elementary? Come on, Alexios. Let'due south talk about information technology.
Deimos:Finish calling me that. I already know what happened that dark.
Kassandra:Correct, Deimos. Now him, I don't know.
Deimos:He'due south a demigod. Worshipped and feared by the Cult and all the Greek world.
Kassandra:Sounds like a fantasy to me. Did the Cult cook that story up, as well?
Deimos:I'd picket your fucking oral fissure. Or I'll shut it for you lot.
Kassandra:You didn't when you had the chance before. And I bet you lot won't now. This is stupid. Nosotros demand to find our mater.
Kassandra:Then why do the Cult's behest?
Deimos:Have you been paying attention? They're following my atomic number 82.
Kassandra:Then brand a choice on your ain. Help find our mater.
Deimos:I'k not interested in reunion. I just want to know what you think yous're doing.
Kassandra:Same matter as your Cult. Looking for Myrrine, our mother.
Deimos:They don't demand her.
Kassandra:Your Cultists call back differently. She'southward their next target.
Deimos:If they always pursued her, it would be to impale her. But if yous don't know where she is, that means she abandoned you, too. How pitiful.
Kassandra:Fifty-fifty if we were abandoned, we survived. We can get dorsum to the way things were if we can find her.
Deimos:The Cult has no interest in sentimentality. Or "family." Its simply aim is control.
Kassandra:And then go them off her trail. Send them later on me instead.
Deimos:You really practice like attention. They'll be after you soon plenty, not to worry. And they'll boss you.
Kassandra:They'll have their work cut out for them.
Deimos:I dubiety it. The "family" will exist exterminated.
Kassandra:If it's truthful they're subsequently u.s., tell them they'll never detect Nikolaos. He's off the map. Trust me, I've searched myself.
Deimos:If I could notice y'all, the other long lost child of Nikolaos, then I can find him. And when I do, he'll wish he was thrown off that mountain.
Kassandra:If they're after all of us, there's one less person to observe. I killed Nikolaos.
Deimos:Nonetheless here yous are acting so righteous. When actually, you're just similar me.
Kassandra:I don't care what yous think. I'll notice Myrrine. Do the right matter. Come with me.
Deimos:What?
Kassandra:We could notice her—together. You lot could help me.
Deimos:Oh, you recall friendship is the answer? Running around like lost children looking for dear mater? You lot're so weak.
Kassandra:Information technology'southward responsibility, not weakness. I won't carelessness the whole family unit only for spite.
Deimos:Responsibility? Get off your loftier equus caballus. The Cult has a plan, and information technology won't be interrupted past the likes of you.
Kassandra:Weak? I've had to impale for much longer than you've had to.
Deimos:Oh, I'thousand then scared.
Deimos:I have an army behind me. I faux move, and you lot're obliterated. That's the plan.
(If "What are the Cult's plans?" is chosen.)
Kassandra:Taking your own mother isn't enough for them?
Deimos:We're not abductors. We're political. Those who don't stand up with us, stand confronting the states. And they pay for that error.
Kassandra:Like me.
Deimos:Similar you. I heard you're planning a trip to Athens. When yous become, tell Perikles and his elitist scum they're adjacent.
(If "What exercise they desire with our family?" is chosen.)
Kassandra:The Cult let Myrrine live. They let Nikolaos live. Why impale them now?
Deimos:Considering you live. You brought this on her and yourself. The Cult is powerful, only they're mortals. I accept the claret of gods, so they retrieve you do, too. But they'll see how wrong they are.
(If "I'm bringing down the Cult." is chosen.)
Kassandra:I'm going after the Cult, you know.
Deimos:You've seen our numbers. You've seen what I can do. And you still recall yous stand a run a risk?
Kassandra:Try me.
Deimos:So having guts runs in the family, does it? You lot claim we have the same claret, so allow'due south see what you can do.
Kassandra shoved Deimos.
Kassandra:Yous're existence an asshole.
Deimos punched Kassandra in the confront and she brutal downwardly.
Deimos:You lot'll have to be stronger than that.
Deimos walked abroad.
Kassandra:Deimos!
Kassandra:We notwithstanding institute each other, blood brother.
Deimos slapped Kassandra's arm away.
Deimos:I told you non to touch me.
Kassandra:Deimos!
Deimos ignored her, walking away.
Kassandra:I'll take the challenge.
Deimos walked abroad.
Kassandra: Maláka. Herodotos won't believe this. I have to tell him what happened.
Back aboard the Adrestia, Kassandra revealed what had transpired.
Herodotos:Well, was the legend true? Was it magnificent? What happened to you? And your spear?
Kassandra:Slow down, Herodotos. My spear's stronger now. I tin can feel it. Yous were right. There was some kind of artifact there. Information technology showed me a vision... of me and my mother.
Herodotos:So the ancient culture is existent. Kassandra, you lot have no idea the power you possess—all harnessed in Leonidas'southward spear.
Kassandra:That'due south not everything. Deimos followed me here. The Cult'southward already moving—he told me himself. They're going later on us—my family, Perikles...
Herodotos:Why would he tell you, unless information technology was a trap?
Kassandra:Information technology doesn't matter. We have to get to Athens—to warn Perikles. And nosotros need to find my mother earlier they do.
Herodotos:Then nosotros go to the Pnyx. If Perikles is anywhere, he'southward there.
Event
Kassandra met with Herodotos at the King of beasts of Leonidas, learning of her connection to the late Spartan King. She later visited the vault on Andros mentioned by Herodotos, with the construct inside augmenting her fighting abilities with the Spear. Later on, she met her blood brother, now known every bit Deimos, who told her of the Cult's plans and warned her to stay abroad.
